Bugs and Botanicals
Summer 2024
We look at using positive and negative space in this project but our final botanical canvases were inspired by the work of B.Twomey and required layering using print blocks and templates. We focused on choosing a range of complimenting colours to create a bright and happy or a more subtle or subdued effect - I love them!
Totem Poles
Spring 2024
We began this project by looking at the differences between creating realistic images, using careful proportions and detailed texture, and creating imaginative or styalised images. Students then decided on a theme for their totem pole design and decided whether they wanted realistic or styalised characters. Here are the fabulous results!

Zoom In
Autumn 2023
In this project, we explored the idea of a zoom effect in designs as well as using viewfinders to magnify or 'zoom in' on elements of an image.
For our final pieces we created giant animal faces emphazing the recognisable features using oil pastel and mod podge to add a shiny finish to complete the eyes.

3D Layers
Summer 2023
Layering elements in different ways to create depth was the basis of this project. We explored the idea in a number of ways in our sketchbooks before creating our final piece in a box frame - the photos don't do justice to the layers of work that provided a beautiful finish.

Art with fabric
Spring 2023
We had fun painting on fabric, drawing and creating texture with fabric. Then for our final piece we used patterned fabrics to create a mosaic/applique style design. Choosing colours was important for the success of these pieces and they made a fabulous colleciton.
Visual Elements
Autumn 2022
In this project we explored line, shape, tone and form in our art. We focused on looking at proportion in still life along with applying tone to create a sense of three dimenions.
For our final canvas piece, we built out our images using clay on canvas and then using acrylic for colour and shading - lots of fun.

Gargoyles and Mythical Creatures
Summer 2022
This sculpture project was inspired by gargoyles and students created their own mythical creatures - some are amusing while others are decorative! The models themselves were made with paper and masking tape, formed around a sand filled (weighted) bottle. The surface was then covered pva and tissue paper before painting with acrylic paint. The models inspired some medieval style canvas paintings.

Landscapes & Hockney
Jan - Mar 2022
In this course we enjoyed taking inspiration from Hockney's colourful paintings to create our own landscape canvases. In our sketchbooks, we worked on drawing and painting skills, applying perspective rules to create a sense of distance.
Wax Resist Techniques
Sept - Dec 2021
We explored wax crayon, pastel and flour, masking tape and masking fluid resist techniques in this coure. Our final peices were created on fabric and frame mounted. A fabulous range of themes and colours in this gallery collection.

Paint techniques and Collage
March 2021
During this course, we explored a range of paint techniques using different types of paint brush. We practised flat wash, sgraffito, hatching, cross hatching and stippling to name a few. We then used these painted papers to create landscape and abstract collages - Fabulous textures and colours!
Low Relief
Jan - Feb 2021
In this project, we explored the effect of low relief layers to create pictures that are really
3 dimensional. Using pressed polystyrene sheets allowed us to add texture by pressing details into the surfaces. Beautiful blended colours in acrylic paint brought these designs to life!

Pen and Ink
Oct - Dec 2020
This course was all about using lines of different thickness to create a variety of texture effects. These were then applied over watercolour to add depth and detail to a design.
Stained Glass Design
Spring 2020
We revisited faux stained glass technique in this course so we could spent time developing design ideas. Secondary aged students enjoyed the challenge of painting on glass vases with some fabulous results.
Well done all!

Calligraphy and Graffiti
Summer 2019
We explored a range of artistic styles in this project, from delicate calligraphy decorating images to bold graffiti logos using spray paint - lots of fun!
Portraits and Masks
Spring 2019
This project began by exploring the proportion rules for sketching heads and moved into an abstract form of design with work inspired by Sandra Silberzweig. Our mask making took portraiture into 3 dimensions with a focus on building form and detail with texture, rather than colour.

Elipses and Still Life
Spring 2019
We spent a lot of time sketching crockery and vases in this project, observing elipses, shadows and light spots. We used this knowledge to inform our imaginative still life paintings, enjoying bold acrylic colours.
Stained Glass Effects
Summer Holiday 2018
Stained Glass effects was the theme for a two morning Summer Holiday Course. The students painted on glass using 3D paint to create the black 'leading' lines then for their second piece of work they used glue guns, black paint and oil pastels to create a stained glass effect canvas.

Mixed Media Birds
Summer 2018
This course was all about using lots of different materials to create a highly textured canvas. The students used all sorts of materials including lolly sticks, tissue paper, muslin and felt to form a relief image of a bird. Layers of paint allowed them to add colour to finish the piece - gorgeous!
